CASPER, Wyo. — As the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming is once again getting ready to host its annual Reverse Raffle and Auction to raise funds for its operations, the club also recently announced that part of the funds will go toward a new greenhouse.
A release from the BGCCW states that the greenhouse is an “innovative, hands-on learning project that will serve as a living classroom where members can explore gardening, plant science, responsibility, and team work, all while growing fresh, nutritious food and developing valuable life skills.”
The greenhouse project will be made possible through the support of several different individuals and partners, including the Five Trails Rotary and Grow Casper. That support will be seen at the Reverse Raffle and Auction.
“This greenhouse will be so much more than a structure,” said Amanda Montgomery, foundation director at the BGCCW. “It will be a living classroom where our members can learn new skills, develop confidence, and understand where healthy food comes from.”
Dan Foote, president of Five Trails Rotary, agreed.
“As a youth-focused Rotary club, Five Trails Rotary is proud to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming on this greenhouse project,” he said. “I was raised in a single-parent household where my mom worked multiple jobs, and home-cooked meals were not always possible. Giving kids the chance to learn how to grow and prepare their own food can create lasting memories and help them build confidence, self-sufficiency, and healthy habits that stay with them for life.”
The Reverse Raffle and Auction is happening on Saturday, Feb. 7. Every year, the event helps support the club’s $5.3 million annual budget, which allows it to serve youth across Wyoming. This year, the event will include a keynote address from former Broncos player and three-time Super Bowl Champion — as well as former Boys & Girls Clubs kid — Mark “Stink” Schlereth. The event will also include a sit-down dinner, a live auction, a silent auction and more.
