‘Hamilton,’ ‘Maybe Happy Ending,’ ‘Outsiders’ coming to Baltimore’s Hippodrome

The Hippodrome Theater will be bringing a dozen heavy-hitting productions to Baltimore next season, including the Pulitzer Prize-honored sensation “Hamilton,” as well as the past two shows to win the Best Musical honor at the Tony Awards: “Maybe Happy Ending” and “The Outsiders.”

The downtown Baltimore theater at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center announced its 2026-’27 Broadway series Thursday, with shows starting in September and going through following June.

“This season reflects everything we strive to bring to Baltimore: bold new voices, iconic stories, and the very best of touring Broadway,” said Ron Legler, president of the performing arts center, in a Thursday statement.

The slate includes three premiering productions that will take advantage of a tax credit designed to make Maryland a destination for new shows: “Maybe Happy Ending,” “Heathers: The Musical” and “Six,” the latter of which is closing a touring run in June before starting again in the fall.

“Baltimore has emerged as a top-tier market for launching and presenting national touring Broadway productions, thanks in large part to the Maryland Theatrical Tax Credit administered by the Maryland Department of Commerce,” Legler said. “We are committed to working closely with our elected leaders to support renewal of this vital program which enables us to build on the strong momentum already underway.”

Legler said continuing to launch new productions is “further solidifying Baltimore’s role as a home for Broadway beyond New York.”

“Maybe Happy Ending,” the Tonys’ pick for best musical last year, will kick off the Hippodrome series from Sept. 13 to 19 with its national tour launch and the love story between two humanoid robots.

“Six” will remix the histories of King Henry VIII’s many wives with pop music and spectacle from Oct. 25 to Nov. 1.

The jukebox musical “Hell’s Kitchen” will mash the music and lyrics of Alicia Keys with a semiautobiographical tale of youth and song in New York City. The production will play at the Hippodrome from Nov. 17 to 22.

The Cirque du Soleil holiday show, “‘Twas the Night Before,” will return to Baltimore for the Christmas season, from Dec. 17 to 27.

“The Sound of Music” will ring in the new year with its return to the Hippodrome from Jan. 5 to 10. The beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein production tells the tale of a nun who becomes the governess for a brittle father and his seven children.

“Death Becomes Her” will jump from the screen to the Baltimore stage from Feb. 2 to 7, 2027, morphing the cult-classic story of two frenemies into an outrageous, grotesque musical.

The Broadway darling “Hamilton” will return to the Hippodrome next year from March 9 to 28, telling the history of a founding father once more unsung but now celebrated through hip-hop, Alexander Hamilton.

“The Outsiders” will then come to Baltimore for the first time. Playing from April 20 to 25, 2027, the Tony-winning musical tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis, his family and their ragtag greaser crew as they try to navigate and overcome the low expectations shoved onto them.

“Heathers: The Musical” will play at the Hippodrome from May 15 to 22, 2027. Another reimagining of a cult-classic film, this dark comedy plops audiences into the ruthless halls and social ladders of high school.

The 2026-’27 season will close with “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” from June 16 to 20 next year, an enchanting tale as old as time exploring the redemptive power of romance in 18th-century France.
