President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) have been in regular contact since their friendly Oval Office meeting in November, Axios reported Tuesday.

The two exchanged phone numbers during the sit-down and have been texting each other since, according to two sources cited by the outlet.

The exact content — and frequency — of the messages remains unclear.

But the back-and-forth marks a striking shift from their rhetoric before the meeting, when Trump derided the then-mayoral candidate as a “communist,” and Mamdani fired back by likening the president to a fascist.

Relations may have gone south between the pair in recent days, however, following Mamdani’s criticism of the U.S.-led military operation to seize Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Asked during a recent interview with The New York Times if he still has a good relationship with the mayor, Trump replied: “Well, I did, but he hit me sooner than I thought. I thought it would take him at least a month. I mean, he hit me on Venezuela.” Mamdani said he was just being honest.
