Passenger traffic increases at Portugal airports

According to the INE quick air transport statistics, approximately 5 million passengers passed through national airports in November, up 5.0% from November 2024.

That month, an average of 79,100 passengers disembarked per day, exceeding the 75,800 recorded in November 2024, representing a 4.4% increase, according to the INE’s statistical note.

Over the first 11 months of the year, traffic growth was similar, with Lisbon Airport accounting for nearly half of total passengers.

Humberto Delgado Airport served 33.5 million passengers, representing 48.6% of total passengers, a year-on-year increase of 2.9%.

Porto Airport accounted for 22.8% of passenger traffic, reaching 15.7 million (+6.1%), while Faro Airport handled 14.6% of passengers, or 10.0 million, according to the INE.

Origin of passengers

“The United Kingdom remained the main country of origin and destination for flights between January and November, showing increases in both disembarking (+2.3%) and embarking (+2.2%) passengers compared to the same period in 2024,” indicates the statistical institute.

“Conversely, France recorded decreases of 2.1% in disembarking passengers and 1.6% in embarking passengers, still occupying the 2nd position among the main countries of origin and destination. Spain, Germany and Italy completed the list of the main countries of origin and destination, occupying the 3rd, 4th and 5th positions, respectively,” the INE also indicates.

Regarding cargo and mail movement at national airports, the 0.3% increase from January to November represents a slowdown compared with 2024, when the first 11 months saw a 14.7% increase.

The movement of goods at Lisbon Airport accounted for 77.6% of the total, reaching 181,200 tons (+0.3% compared with the same period in 2024), according to the INE.
