Multi-vehicle collision at Shamirpet junction

Several people escaped unhurt after a multi-vehicle collision involving three cars and two private buses at the Aliabad X Road junction in Shamirpet on Tuesday evening, with the incident causing momentary traffic disruption.

The accident was reported at around 5.30 p.m. when a private bus travelling at high speed failed to slow down near the intersection and crashed into a car from the rear. The force of the impact set off a chain collision, with the car ploughing into another car ahead before ramming into the central divider. The collision sequence continued as the second car struck the third before the vehicles finally came to a stop after hitting a bus positioned further ahead.

According to Shamirpet Inspector Srinath, traffic at the junction was moving at a crawl as motorists slowed for the red signal, with vehicles travelling at speeds of roughly 10 to 20 kmph. “A speeding private bus, driven by Anjaneyulu, failed to brake in time and rammed into a car, triggering the pile-up,” the officer said.

Police registered a case against the bus driver and initiated a detailed investigation. A breathalyser test conducted on the driver confirmed that he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Preliminary assessment by the police suggests that overspeeding and failure to maintain safe stopping distance were the primary factors leading to the accident.
