Ten arrested in Fatikroy violence, law will take its course: Tripura CM

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said the government is taking strict action in connection with the recent violence in Fatikroy and asserted that the law will take its own course.

Addressing an event here in Agartala, Saha said, “Immediately after the incident at Fatikroy, I spoke to local ministers, the Director General of Police, the Superintendent of Police and other senior officials to assess the situation and ensure prompt action. Police have so far arrested ten persons in connection with the incident.”

The chief minister said the political affiliation of those involved in the violence was irrelevant, as the government does not believe in discrimination based on political colour.

“The chief minister and his cabinet serve all sections of society, and we prioritise maintaining law and order,” he added.

Saha said the administration must establish order and will use force, if necessary, to ensure the rule of law prevails. He reiterated that authorities will spare no one if found guilty.

Earlier, the chief minister downplayed allegations leveled by opposition leaders, claiming they repeatedly point fingers without any substance.

“The opposition keeps pointing fingers at us and making unnecessary noise. If the police were inactive, how were the arrests made? These allegations lack substance. Now, I can also raise questions. What action did the government under their control take against the perpetrators who killed innocent people during militancy? What action was taken against those responsible for the deaths of innocent people in South Tripura district?” he said on Sunday.

He said the opposition must refrain from exploiting such incidents for political gains.

Opposition leaders have claimed that the police acted in a biased manner and that the real offenders are roaming scot-free.

Communal tension erupted at Fatikroy on Saturday following a quarrel over Puja subscription collection. Calm was restored after the police and administration took prompt action.
