Elon redshirt freshman quarterback Landen Clark is transferring to LSU, he told The Advocate Sunday.
Clark threw for 2,321 yards and had 18 touchdown passes this past season. He also ran for 614 yards and 11 scores enroute to becoming the CAA Co-Offensive Rookie of the Year and a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award. The latter honor recognizes the top FCS freshman in the nation.
LSU beat out Michigan, Kentucky and James Madison for Clark’s services. Clark is the first quarterback LSU has added out of the transfer portal.
LSU has brought multiple quarterbacks onto campus for visits, including Cincinnati transfer Brendan Sorsby, Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt and Southern Cal transfer Husan Longstreet. Sorsby has committed to Texas Tech, but Leavitt and Longstreet are still potential starting options for the Tigers.
The Tigers needed to rebuild their quarterback room this offseason after their remaining scholarship quarterbacks — sophomore Michael Van Buren and redshirt freshman Colin Hurley — entered the transfer portal and fifth-year senior starter Garrett Nussmeier ran out of eligibility.
LSU has also failed to sign a quarterback in each of its last two recruiting classes. The Tigers do, however, hold a commitment from Class of 2027 four-star recruit Peyton Houston.
