MANILA, Philippines — The Traslacion for the Feast of the Jesus Nazareno, represented by a black statue of Jesus that was brought here from Mexico in 1606, started today at 3:58 a.m., with the carriage, or “andas” leaving the Quirino Grandstand for the hours-long trek back to Quiapo Church.
The first Traslacion took place in 1787.
In the run-up to the actual procession of the statue, from the Quirino Grandstand back to Quiapo Church, several activities had already taken place.
