The Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) has announced the formal appointment of Commissioner of Tax, Mr Sam Loi, as Acting Commissioner General. The appointment was made by the National Executive Council and took effect on 17 December 2025. Mr Loi will serve in this capacity until a substantive appointment is finalized.
With this appointment, all statutory powers and functions vested in the office of the Commissioner General under Papua New Guinea’s tax laws are now lawfully exercised by Mr Loi. The IRC emphasized that the transition will not affect taxpayers, tax agents, financial institutions, international partner agencies, or other stakeholders. Engagement with the Commission will continue as normal, with no changes to existing tax obligations, compliance requirements, or service arrangements.
