The migration U-turn announced by German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (Christian Social Union) is broadly supported by a majority of Germans, we read on the website of Deutsche Welle.
Most want restrictions
The results of a poll conducted by the public opinion research institute YouGov on behalf of the German Press Agency indicate that, when asked whether they share Dobrindt’s goal of reducing immigration by people seeking asylum, 53 percent of respondents said they “fully agree with it”. A further 23 percent of adult German citizens “rather” support this goal.
Altogether, 15 percent of those surveyed “rather” or “completely” reject Dobrindt’s course, either “completely” or “rather”. Nine percent of respondents were unable to make a judgment on the matter or did not provide an answer.
