The Chairman of the General Authority for Communications and Information Technology, Abdulbasit Al-Baour, held an expanded meeting last Wednesday (17 December), at the Authority’s Tripoli headquarters with the heads and directors of private sector telecommunications companies. The meeting was also attended by the Director General of the Regulatory Department, Riyadh Al-Zaytouni, along with several directors of departments and offices within the Authority.

The meeting focused on studying mechanisms for developing private sector services and addressing vital issues that regulate its operations. In his opening remarks, Al-Baour reviewed the most prominent challenges facing the Authority, particularly those related to:

• Updating regulations and legislation governing the private sector

• Finding radical solutions to obstacles hindering workflow and affecting performance quality

• The necessity of improving the level of services provided to citizens to meet their aspirations.

The meeting witnessed fruitful discussions between the Authority and company directors, where the importance of clearly defining roles and responsibilities to ensure the achievement of shared goals was emphasized. Attendees also exchanged views on ways to integrate modern technological advancements, improve the efficiency of communications infrastructure, and expand the scope of services in various local areas to achieve a significant improvement in performance.

These initiatives are part of the proposed operational plan of the General Authority for Communications and Informatics, which aims to:

• Ground effective laws and legislation that enhance competitiveness within the private sector
• And contribute to achieving sustainable development for the communications and informatics sector in general in Libya.
