Rabat – Morocco is expected to experience snowy weather, heavy rain, and very cold temperatures from Friday until next Monday in several parts of the country, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
In an orange-level weather alert, the DGM said that snowfall is expected on Saturday in areas located above 1,700 meters. Snowfall of between 10 and 20 centimeters is forecast in the provinces of Ifrane, Khenifra, Midelt, Taza, Sefrou, Boulemane, and Beni Mellal, from midnight until 6 p.m.
Heavier snowfall is expected in mountainous areas above 1,500 meters from Sunday at noon until Monday at 11 p.m. These regions, including Ifrane, Khenifra, Midelt, Boulemane, Sefrou, Taza, Beni Mellal, and Azilal, could see between 15 and 35 centimeters of snow.
Lighter snowfall, ranging from 5 to 15 centimeters, is also expected in Al Hoceima, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Figuig, Jerada, Taourirt, and Guercif.
The weather service also warned of heavy rain, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, on Sunday from midnight until 11 p.m. Rainfall of 35 to 60 millimeters is expected in Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Ouezzane, Tangier-Assilah, Tetouan, M’diq-Fnideq, Kenitra, Al Hoceima, and Chefchaouen.
Other areas, including Sidi Kacem, Driouch, Khemisset, Rabat, Sale, Skhirate-Temara, Meknes, Moulay Yacoub, Taza, and Sidi Slimane, may see between 25 and 35 millimeters of rain.
In addition, very cold weather is forecast from Friday to Sunday in several provinces. Temperatures are expected to drop to between minus 4 and minus 8 degrees Celsius in Boulemane, Ifrane, Midelt, Khenifra, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Taroudant, and Chichaoua.
Authorities are advising residents, especially in mountainous areas, to take precautions due to difficult weather conditions.
