The distribution was led by Grace Ngirmechang, director of the Koror State Department of State and Cultural Affairs, along with Dirradelkong Yaisang Mariur, Dirrebrak Elisita Morei, Dilodilang Edwina Katosang, and Hulda Blesam, representatives of Ipang Seineng and Maiberel of Koror.

The team delivered supplies to the Ministry of Health and Human Services and the Ministry of Justice’s Koror Jail. Belau National Hospital received 10 bags of rice and 10 bags containing bed sheets, robes and related items. The Koror Jail received 10 bags of rice, canned food, shampoo and other basic necessities.

Ngirmechang said careful distribution is necessary because supplies from Operation Christmas Drop are often limited in quantity and variety.
“Items that come in the drop are usually not enough for everybody,” Ngirmechang said. “They’re usually a variety of a few items, so they can’t go to everyone. The items are better off donated to people who need them.”

She said some miscellaneous items are set aside as prizes for community activities, while toys and stuffed animals are typically donated to Head Start programs. Other donated items from this year’s Operation Christmas Drop will be distributed at a later date.

Operation Christmas Drop is the U.S. Department of Defense’s longest-running humanitarian airlift, delivering donated supplies each year to remote islands across Micronesia and Palau. Local governments and community leaders oversee distribution to ensure the donations support essential services and vulnerable populations.
