A stunning goal from inside his own half by Oussama Tannane set Morocco on course to a dramatic 3–2 extra-time victory over Jordan, as the Atlas Lions clinched the FIFA Arab Cup 2025 title in a thrilling final at Lusail Stadium in Doha.
Morocco struck early when Tannane unleashed an extraordinary effort from well beyond the halfway line in the fourth minute, catching Jordan goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila off his line.
The spectacular strike, estimated at nearly 60 metres, brought a packed stadium to its feet and set the tone for an unforgettable final.
Jordan responded strongly and levelled shortly after the break when Ali Olwan headed home from close range following a corner.
Olwan then gave Jordan the lead in the 68th minute, converting from the penalty spot after a handball was awarded against Achraf El Mahdioui.
Just as Jordan appeared on the brink of their first Arab Cup title, substitute Abderrazak Hamdallah brought Morocco level in the 88th minute, finishing from close range after a corner scramble to force extra time.
Drama continued in the additional period as Jordan thought they had scored a sensational goal through Mohannad Abutaha, only for VAR to rule it out for handball.
Moments later, Morocco made the decisive breakthrough when Hamdallah scored his second of the night, tapping in after Marwane Saadane’s overhead kick caused chaos in the Jordanian penalty area.
Jordan had a golden chance to win the match in normal time, but Olwan was denied by the Moroccan goalkeeper when clean through on goal, missing the opportunity to complete a hat-trick and seal the title.
The victory marks Morocco’s second FIFA Arab Cup triumph, following their first success in 2012, and sees them succeed Algeria as champions.
The final was attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who presented the trophy to Morocco captain Mohamed Hrimat.
Morocco will now turn their focus to hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, buoyed by a growing reputation following their historic World Cup semifinal run at Qatar 2022.
The 2025 Arab Cup also proved a major success off the pitch, with ticket sales exceeding one million—double the total recorded at the previous edition.
