The Myanmar billiards and snooker team, who secured gold and silver medals at the XXXIII South-East Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand (held from 9 to 20 December 2025), returned to Yangon by air yesterday morning.
A celebratory crowd gathered at Yangon International Airport to offer a warm and enthusiastic welcome. The returning athletes were greeted with floral garlands by U Htay Aung, the Yangon Region Minister for Social Affairs, alongside the Principal of the Institute of Sports and Physical Education (Yangon) and other officials. Students from the Institute, as well as the athletes’ friends and relatives, were also in attendance to honour their achievements.
The returning delegation included the gold-medal-winning men’s billiards team — Pauk Sa, Aung Htay, and Nay Thway Oo — as well as Pauk Sa, who also claimed a silver medal in the men’s individual billiards event.
During the welcoming ceremony, Yangon Region Minister U Htay Aung officially commended the athletes for their success. He presented a cash reward of 5,000 Thai baht each to the gold medallists – Pauk Sa, Aung Htay, and Nay Thway Oo — amounting to a total honorary award of 15,000 Thai baht. — MNA/KZL
