The Times Kuwait Report
The Ambassador of the Lebanese Republic to Kuwait, H.E. Ghady El Khoury, affirmed that the genuine affection and humanitarian concern he felt from His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, toward Lebanon and its people left a deep and lasting impression on him.
He said that His Highness’s reception of him and his family during the presentation of credentials reflected lofty moral and humanitarian values, making him feel “as though my father was present with me at that moment.”
Speaking to reporters during a reception for members of the Lebanese community at “Beit Lebanon” on Tuesday evening, Ambassador Khoury stressed that these sentiments were not directed at him personally, but rather embodied Kuwait’s steadfast position toward Lebanon.
He noted that from the moment of his arrival in Kuwait, he sensed this affection from both the leadership and the Kuwaiti people, describing it as love extended to Lebanon as a nation and to its people.
The ambassador outlined three main priorities for his diplomatic mission. Foremost among them is working to turn the page on any previous differences between Lebanon and certain Gulf Cooperation Council countries — while emphasizing that this does not apply to Kuwait, which has always stood by Lebanon, dealing with it as a brother with sincere concern, advice and guidance in Lebanon’s best interest.
The second priority, he said, is to elevate bilateral relations from a fraternal and friendly framework to a solid, institutional partnership built on clear and firm foundations, enabling sustainable cooperation and future growth across various sectors.
Khoury added that his third — and most important — priority is to focus on economic, social and developmental issues, away from political tensions.
He described his mission in Kuwait as predominantly socio-economic, aimed at opening new horizons for cooperation and investment.
On investment prospects, the ambassador affirmed that Lebanon is currently on the right path in terms of security and reform, laying the groundwork for a positive phase ahead despite existing challenges. He noted that Lebanon offers promising investment opportunities across multiple sectors, and that efforts are underway to address investors’ concerns and create a more reassuring environment for capital.
Addressing the Lebanese community in Kuwait, Ambassador Khoury said that Kuwait has always been—and will continue to be—a home for Lebanon and the Lebanese. He praised Kuwait’s historically balanced and wise role, its constant concern for Arab interests, and its focus on internal development and the well-being of its people, reflecting an ability to balance regional responsibilities with national priorities.
Regarding anticipated official visits, the ambassador revealed that preparations are underway to organize reciprocal visits at the highest levels, including a prospective visit by the Lebanese Prime Minister. Such a visit, he said, would pave the way for subsequent visits by Lebanese ministers and officials under a carefully planned agenda that reflects the priorities of both countries.
