Police kill woman in Bryant shootout following domestic dispute

Bryant police and Saline County sheriff’s office SWAT officers shot and killed a woman who opened fire on them at the end of an hourslong standoff that began late Monday with a domestic disturbance call, police said in a news release.

The woman, who wasn’t named in the release, exited the house at 1101 S.W. Fourth St. with a rifle and began shooting at a SWAT team vehicle, the release states. Officers returned fire, killing her.

The Arkansas State Police has taken over the investigation, according to the release.

Police arrived at the home after getting a call around 10:20 p.m. Monday from a man who said he and his wife had been fighting when she fired two shots at him through a bedroom door, the release says. It didn’t name the man.

He fled and called 911 before meeting with detectives, who got a warrant for the woman’s arrest, according to the release. She refused to leave the home, and the joint Bryant police and Saline County sheriff’s office SWAT team arrived and began negotiating with her.

Several hours passed, and the woman briefly exited the home armed with a handgun before retreating back inside, the release states. A short time later she came back out with the rifle and began shooting.
