A delegation of judges and judicial officers from the Supreme Court of the Union of Myanmar seen at Yangon International Airport yesterday before departing for India.
A delegation of 40 judges and judicial officers from the Supreme Court of the Union of Myanmar departed from Yangon International Airport yesterday to attend the “8th Capacity Building Programme for Myanmar Judges and Judicial Officers”. The programme is being hosted by the National Judicial Academy (NJA) in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, and will run for five days from 15 to 19 December 2025.
This capacity-building initiative is conducted under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Office of the Union Chief Justice and the National Judicial Academy of India on “Training Programme for Myanmar Judges and Judicial Officers in India”.
The comprehensive curriculum will cover a wide range of topics, including India’s Constitutional Framework, Judicial Ethics and Professional Skills, Court and Case Management, Environmental and Wildlife Protection Jurisprudence, Judiciary and Media Relations, Law of Evidence, Forensic Medical Testimony, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and Gender-Equitable Society. The sessions will be led by senior Indian judges, university professors, legal experts, and specialists, who will engage in interactive discussions and experience-sharing with the participants. Additionally, the attendees will have the opportunity to go on study visits to courts and prominent sites in Bhopal.
The delegation comprises deputy directors, assistant directors, and staff officers from the Supreme Court of the Union, as well as the heads of regional judicial offices, district-level judges, township-level judges, and other judicial officers from courts across various states and regions of Myanmar. Notably, including this batch, a total of 320 judicial officers have been sent under this ongoing training cooperation.
This collaborative programme is designed to facilitate a comparative study of the judicial systems of Myanmar and India, further strengthening judicial cooperation between the two nations. It is also a significant step towards enhancing the professional capacity and expertise of Myanmar’s judges and judicial officers. — MNA
