The Current GA, Inc., a nationally recognized nonprofit investigative newsroom serving Coastal Georgia, is hiring its first Executive Director. He or she will join our senior management team and evolve our prize-winning independent newsroom into a more sustainable, impactful organization.
This is a pivotal moment: After five years of award-winning reporting, the board is
investing in leadership that can stabilize operations, grow revenue, and expand The
Current’s reach — while preserving the journalistic independence that makes the
newsroom trusted and beloved.
The role of Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and leads the
fundraising, administrative, marketing, and financial management of the organization.
The purpose of this role is to remove the responsibility of day-to-day operations and
nonprofit management from the newsroom, freeing up mission-focused resources and
improving financial reporting, donor stewardship, content engagement and brand
awareness, as well as organizational accountability.
Experience in and a passion for leading and growing non-profits is essential, as is a
start-up business-minded attitude to fearlessly support our founders’ vision that
providing in-depth local news will improve government accountability as well as fuel
civic discussion about problems and solutions for Coastal Georgia’s diverse
communities.
The Executive Director will serve as a co-equal leader alongside our Editor in Chief and
work directly with the Board of Directors and alongside our core leadership team to set
strategic business goals for the organization and have the independence to execute plans to meet revenue targets while keeping journalism ethics at the forefront. The most successful candidates will come with a network of funding relationships to build on and expand our thriving donor network; new ideas for brand development, increased reader engagement, and potential revenue; and experience with financial reporting, board development, and employee relations.
It is essential to have the ability to connect with people, get their buy-in, and move all
parts of the organization toward its financial and mission goals. Strong business
development skills, a keen understanding of nonprofit financing, and the ability to shift
between tactical and strategic work are a must.
We want to find someone with a desire to innovate and a willingness to dig into the
nuances of initiatives such as a business membership program or a grant proposal or
solving solutions to daily problems.
