SGU and TAMCC sign agreement to expand higher education opportunities in Grenada

St George’s University (SGU) and T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at creating a robust and collaborative higher education framework in Grenada.

This partnership will establish clear pathways for students to transition from associate degrees at TAMCC to accelerated bachelor’s degree programmes at SGU’s School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), while fostering joint teaching, research, and community engagement initiatives.

The agreement outlines plans to harmonise curricula, and develop joint outreach programs, ultimately benefiting students, faculty, and the wider Caribbean region. Areas of collaboration include accelerated degree programmes in fields such as tourism and hospitality, information and communication technologies, natural sciences, social sciences, environmental technology, and creative arts.

Dr Marios Loukas, SGU president and dean of the School of Medicine, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: “This MOU represents a significant step toward expanding educational opportunities for Grenadian students. By creating seamless pathways from TAMCC to SGU, we are investing in the future of our nation and the region. Our shared commitment to academic excellence and innovation will empower students to achieve their goals and contribute meaningfully to society.”

The official signing ceremony took place on 10 December at SGU’s Chancellor Charles Modica Campus, bringing together SGU administration and representatives from TAMCC. This event marks a significant milestone in advancing educational collaboration between the 2 institutions.

Dr Wendy Grenade, chair of the TAMCC Council, highlighted the transformative potential of the collaboration: “This partnership underscores TAMCC’s dedication to providing accessible, high-quality education. Working with SGU allows us to offer our students accelerated degree options and exposure to world-class resources. Together, we are building a stronger, more integrated education system that meets the needs of Grenada and the wider Caribbean.”

The MOU will be implemented through a joint working group comprising representatives from both institutions. The agreement is effective immediately and will remain in place for 4 years, with provisions for renewal.
