Orlando Pirates have finally gotten their man from Cape Town Spurs, and it’s none other than Reece Braithwaite.
Braithwaite had been waiting for his clearance from Spurs who refused to issue it, claiming he still their player.
The stand-off started as Spurs were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League, and thus, all the players became free agents.
Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, and Liam Bern were the first to fight for their clearances as they wanted to move on.
However, Spurs fought tooth and nail to keep them until the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) ruled against them.
And this probably gave a whole lot of other players bravery to fight for their futures, and Braithwaite is the latest.
Last week, Braithwaite’s camp had given Spurs an ultimatum to issue the clearance or be hauled before the PSL DRC.
Now, according to SABC Sport, Spurs have opted for the easy way by issuing the clearance, and thus, paving way for Braithwaite to join Pirates.
ORLANDO PIRATES SECURE BRAITHWAITE’S SIGNATURE
“SABC Sport now understands that Spurs have elected not to contest the matter further and have officially issued Braithwaite’s clearance,” reads part of the report.
BRAITHWAITE TO START AT DDC TEAM
Braithwaite will kick-start his Pirates career with the DStv Diski Challenge team in an attempt to help him adapt.
He is seen as a long-term replacement for ageing Deon Hotto on the left-hand side of the Pirates defence.
