Egypt reviews plans for first national medical simulation centre

Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed progress on the country’s first national medical simulation and clinical training centre, known as the “Nile” project, during a meeting on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health.

Abdel Ghaffar described the centre as a “major leap” in medical education, aimed at providing healthcare professionals with realistic simulation environments to improve clinical skills and patient safety.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry spokesperson, highlighted that the initial designs for the centre were well-received, noting their modern and professional execution. He added that the project has the potential to significantly enhance medical training in Egypt.

The meeting included a thorough review of the planned training departments, their roles, and the structure of the programs, which will be based on cutting-edge international simulation technologies.

The minister directed officials to review all technical and engineering details, and to update the implementation timelines and indicators. He also requested a detailed Arabic-language report outlining the construction and equipment costs, along with a sustainable operational plan. Two preliminary architectural and functional designs are to be completed within a week and will be presented to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi ahead of implementation.

The meeting was attended by senior ministry officials and technical advisers, with the director of Qatar’s Itqan Centre for Excellence and Learning participating via video link.
