Qantas resumes Gold Coast-Auckland flights after five-year hiatus

Qantas has announced the resumption of international flights from the Gold Coast to Auckland, five years after the route was discontinued.

The airline will operate three weekly flights, starting in June next year.

This addition is projected to increase seat capacity by 52,000 annually.

The reintroduction of the Qantas service is anticipated to intensify competition on the trans-Tasman route, where Jetstar and Air New Zealand already operate flights from the Gold Coast to six New Zealand destinations.

Fares on the new Qantas service will start from $364 one way.

In comparison, Jetstar offers one-way flights on the Gold Coast to Auckland route for approximately $190.

“Auckland is the Gold Coast’s busiest route,” Queensland Airports CEO Amelia Evans said.

Evans also noted the expected economic benefits.

“We’re going to see a significant boost to our local economy, of $100 million in expenditure.

“The business class option and the Qantas tail will give passengers more choice.”

Tickets for the resumed Qantas service are now available for purchase.

The first flight is scheduled to depart for Auckland on June 16, 2026, marking Qantas’s return to international operations from the Gold Coast after a five-year absence.

“We will have a 25 per cent increase in seats in 2026 compared to 2025, that’s the fastest growing port in Australia for Qantas,” Scott Zegland, Qantas’ head of commercial strategy, said.

“There’s no other Australian port that has that amount of connectivity with New Zealand.”
