The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued a statement in which, as they say, they warn the domestic and international public that a systematic Islamophobic campaign has apparently been launched in recent days targeting Bosniaks and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“In public appearances by radical right-wing politicians from the homeland, the surrounding area and the world, and in quasi-scientific texts, an attempt is being made to construct an imaginary ‘Islamic threat’, solely due to the fact that a significant portion of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina identify as Muslims. Islam in the political, public and cultural life of Bosniaks, and thus Bosnia and Herzegovina, plays the role that Christianity in its various sects, with less specific features, has among other Bosnian and Herzegovinian peoples, but also in other regional and European secular states and societies,” the statement from the Public Relations Office of the Riyaset of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina states.
He adds that it is shameful today to accuse a people who survived genocide and who were exposed to systematic and organized crimes of extermination for more than four years, and whose biological substance was destroyed in a large part of the land where they lived for centuries, of “demographic opportunism”.
