‘Forewarned is forearmed,’ Archbishop Chama warns on implications of failed Govt-Oasis Forum talks

Archbishop Ignatius Chama has expressed regret over the collapse of talks between the Oasis Forum and the government on the constitution amendment roadmap, urging the nation to turn to intercessory prayers.

Speaking in Bemba during the Ishiwi Lyabumi (Message of Life) programme on Lutanda Radio on Wednesday in Kasama, Archbishop Chama informed the faithful that a meeting with President Hakainde Hichilema had failed to yield progress.

“Nifilya batila umuntu bamweba ati cilemba naisasa, nao ati inendelya, kumweba fye ati konkonyapo ngawalwala mumala lobe – if someone is advised not to eat beans which has gone bad but insists that he is going ahead and eat it, all that can be done is to inform that person that if you develop stomach upset, do not complain that you were not warned,” he said.

Chama appealed to the faithful to hold intercessory prayers for the country, especially for Members of Parliament, so that God may grant them the spirit of discernment.

He also called on the Church to pray for President Hichilema’s supporters so that they not only become people of integrity, but citizens who adhere to the truth.

The standoff between the Oasis Forum and the UPND government has continued, with government failing to yield to demands by the group to withdraw Bill 7 completely and allow for a fresh start that accommodates the voices of the majority.
