Rarawai mill to reopen tomorrow after September fire, FSC confirms

The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has confirmed that the Rarawai Mill will reopen tomorrow, following extensive restoration efforts after a fire damaged the mill’s powerhouse on 17 September.

FSC Chief Executive Officer Bhan Pratap Singh said all major repair and safety work has now been completed, allowing the mill to safely resume operations.

“Comprehensive restoration, safety assessments, and operational readiness checks have been finalised to ensure the facility is fully prepared for safe and efficient operations,” Singh said.

According to FSC, all major maintenance arising from the incident has been completed, while some minor tasks remain but will not affect the start-up or the continuity of crushing.

Singh said engineering and technical teams had worked closely with authorities throughout the process.

“Our teams have met every safety and operational requirement ahead of reopening, and we are confident the mill is ready,” he noted.

Farmers have been advised that normal cane delivery to the mill can resume from tomorrow. FSC field staff will be coordinating with gangs and growers supplying cane to Rarawai.

“FSC remains committed to supporting growers and ensuring continuity of supply for the remainder of the crushing season,” Singh said.

“Our focus now is on maintaining operational stability and delivering smooth, consistent milling operations going forward.”
