Magical Light Installations and Free Advent Events in Budapest City Park

A unique, free light park and a diverse range of festive programs, including several free events, await families in Budapest City Park (Városliget) during the Advent season. The most spectacular festive season in the history of City Park began on the last weekend of November, culminating in a series of light installations around the House of the Hungarian Millennium.

At the House of the Hungarian Millennium and its immediate surroundings, visitors are greeted by a meticulously planned, spectacular light show: upon arrival at the site, the path leads through the Rose Garden, through a veritable tunnel of light, and the atmosphere is completed by the rose arbor, covered with dense strings of lights.

One of the park’s most popular attractions, the BalloonFly lookout point, is also evoked at the site, returning in an unusual form: a miniature balloon richly decorated with Christmas lights and decorations evokes the experience of floating. The park’s Advent decorations are completed by the Zsolnay fountain dressed in winter lights, offering a unique spectacle for visitors, wrote the park maintainer Városliget Zrt. in a statement.

They highlighted that

during the Advent season, City Park’s program offers over two dozen events at eight locations, including Advent carol singing, Christmas story readings, and the popular Santa Claus orienteering.

The park’s cultural institutions, including the House of Music Hungary, the Museum of Ethnography, the Museum of Fine Arts, the ResoArt Villa, and the House of Hungarian Millenium are joining the series of events with particularly varied holiday programs this year.

Joining in the Christmas festivities, the park’s restaurants, such as the Pavilonkert and the Léghajó kert, await visitors with festive delicacies as well as classic and seasonal dishes.

The statement highlighted that City Park is now one of the most modern, vibrant, and family-friendly venues in the capital, where the festive program preserves traditions and showcases the park’s 21st-century image. They highlighted that thanks to the park’s renovation, this year’s festive program is rare even by international standards: visitors to the park can enjoy the century-old traditions of the City Park Ice Rink, the Széchenyi Thermal Bath, and the magical atmosphere of Vajdahunyad Castle in one place.

This classic experience is elevated to a 21st-century level by the world-class cultural institutions created as part of the Liget Budapest Project: the Museum of Ethnography, the House of Music Hungary, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the House of Hungarian Millennium not only contribute to the festive atmosphere of Advent in City Park as architectural masterpieces, but also with a rich program of events, they added.
