A HOMEMADE bomb was discovered at a 24-hour convenience store in Manjung Point, Sitiawan on Monday night, prompting a swift police response, authorities confirmed.
The suspicious object was spotted on a food shelf by store staff at approximately 10.30pm, said Manjung District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hasbullah Abd Rahman.
Following the report, officers from the Manjung District Police Headquarters, together with the Bomb Disposal Unit, were dispatched to examine the device and implement safety measures.
“Examination confirmed that the object was a homemade bomb. The device, however, was non-functional as it contained no explosive material or complete circuitry,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
A man was apprehended in front of the store on suspicion of involvement in the incident. “The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation,” Hasbullah added.
The district police chief emphasised the seriousness of any act that could cause public alarm or threaten safety.
“Members of the public are reminded not to misuse technology to create any form of threat that could disturb public order. We will not compromise on action in such cases,” he said.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attempted threat, including the suspect’s motives and whether any wider risk to the community exists. – December 2, 2025
