Africycle donates 12 bicycles to Shine Relief | Malawi 24

Africycle, a company that sells bicycles in the city of Zomba, has donated twelve bicycles worth K4 million to the Faith Organization Shine Relief.

The bicycles will be used by vulnerable learners supported by the organization as they travel to school.

Speaking during the handover ceremony held at the Africycle Offices in Zomba, the Executive Director of Shine Relief, Suzen Zidana, said the bicycles have arrived at the right time and will greatly help vulnerable children under their care, such as orphans and young mothers (teen mothers) to get to the schools where they learn easier.

Zidana thanked Africycle for donating the bicycles to their organization, saying they would not have managed to buy them on their own since one bicycle costs between 300 and 400 thousand kwacha.

She said the bicycles will help Shine Relief achieve its vision of supporting vulnerable children in education, as the bicycles will enable them to reach school on time because they previously walked long distances.

“I don’t have much to say, except that may God continue to bless them for what they have done for us,” she said.

In his remarks, Africycle Executive Director Benjamin Voss said they decided to donate the bicycles because of the good relationship they have with Shine Relief.

He added that in the past they also supported the organization with twenty (20) bicycles.

Voss said Shine Relief does commendable work in caring for vulnerable children by paying their school fees, which is why Africycle felt that the bicycles would help the organization reduce transport challenges faced by the learners.

One of the vulnerable girls supported by Shine Relief, Bridget Kenneth, a Form 2 student at Malindi Secondary School, said the bicycles will help them focus on their studies because they will now arrive at school on time and also return home earlier.
