Renowned comedian and medical doctor Dr. Jamil Chikakuda is making a significant contribution to the Muslim community in Luhomelo, Mzimba District, by constructing a mosque.
A local Muslim leader Sheikh Jaafar Biliyati said Muslims had problems to pray in a grass thatched structure, especially during the rainy season.
“We are grateful for this development because the mosque will provide a safe and comfortable place for worship. And we pray for Allah to bless Chikakuda,” he said.

Bi l i y at i explained that building a mosque is considered a virtuous act in Islam which carries immense spiritual and communal rewards.
“The primary rewards include an ongoing charity [sadaqah jariyah] and the promise of a house in paradise [jannah] built by Allah. We pray that Allah grants Chikakuda these, because what he has done is in line with the teachings of Islam,” he said.
Another Muslim Amina Samson said she was excited with the project because it will offer them an opportunity to worship Allah in a safe environment.
“People can pray anywhere, but praying in a mosque is more glorious. I, therefore, thank [Dr.] Chikakuda for his generosity,” she said.
Chikakuda, popularly known as Che Mandota, said his faith moved him to start the project after observing the status of the current mosque and in line with hadif that encourages Muslims to do good things, which yield more rewards.
“I was inspired by the dedication of the local Muslim community who despite worshiping in a grass-thatched mosque, were gathering in large numbers and always prayerful. I, therefore, thought of building a house for Allah and I believe this project will bring glory to the most high,” he said.
Chikakuda, who works at Mzuzu Central Hospital, expressed his gratitude to the local chief for the land to build the mosque.
“I would also like to commend the people who have also helped towards this project. The construction of the mosque has been blessed with a community effort, with many people contributing in various ways, including money and labour,” he added.
Chikakuda, who likes shooting comedies and uploading them on his YouTube channel and also televise on different television stations, has since urged fellow Muslim artists and the rest of the Muslim community to contribute towards the development of Islam in the country.
The project which started in August this year, is expected to be completed in the next two months, according to Chikakuda
