A beloved race returns to the Wings Over the Prairie Festival for the 46th year. The Great Duck Race is this Saturday, Nov. 29, starting at Farmers and Merchants Bank at 708 S. Main St. in Stuttgart. The 5K and 10K races begin at 8 a.m.
Last year, about 200 runners competed in the race. Director of Communications and Events for the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce, Logan Molock, said this year’s Great Duck Race promises similar success.
“We have over 150 runners pre-registered, so we are super excited about that,” Molock said.
Baptist Health sponsors the race. There is an award ceremony after both runs with finisher medals for the 10K and division medals for both races. The age divisions are 10 and under, 11 to 15, 16 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70+.
Runners travel across the country to compete in the Great Duck Race, which Molock said sets the tone for a busy, competitive day.
“This kicks off the whole day on Saturday, moving on into contests and the Duck Gumbo Cookoff and rounding out the whole weekend with the world’s contest and the champion of champions contest,” Molock said.
Pre-registered runners can pick up their packets today until 5 p.m. at the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce. Registration is also available on Saturday before the races from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.
