Cheikh Bara Ndiaye’s Surprising Warning

The Senegalese political scene is marked by palpable tension between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, in a silent duel within the “Diomaye President” coalition.

In this context of repeated disagreements on key appointments and the direction of the movement, PASTEF deputy Cheikh Bara Ndiaye posted an intriguing message on Facebook. Asserting that Sonko’s health is “in good shape,” he immediately warns the Prime Minister of “threats from the enemy.” Why such a message, and what is he really trying to signal?

The questioning intensifies when considering the role played by Cheikh Bara Ndiaye in the activist ecosystem: he is often seen as the direct — sometimes brutal — voice of the most combative wing of Sonko’s supporters. By highlighting the Prime Minister’s health, he not only reassures but also sanctifies. The reference to his physical integrity immediately evokes his past as a persecuted figure under the previous regime. Therefore, any threat, even implicit, takes on an explosive political dimension: who could this “enemy” be? And why mention the possibility of danger at a time when the coalition is tearing apart?

Cheikh Bara Ndiaye’s warning thus appears as a strategic maneuver on two levels. On one hand, it creates a preventive shield around the Prime Minister: any political attack or attempt at marginalization would instantly be interpreted as a targeted aggression. On the other hand, it puts direct pressure on the presidential camp, portrayed as seeking to isolate Ousmane Sonko. By turning the internal conflict into a question of vigilance — or even political survival — the deputy raises a central question: is the battle at the top reaching a critical threshold?
