Georgia, Cyprus deepen Maritime & Trade Ties

Georgia: The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with the Deputy Minister of the President of Cyprus, Marina Hajimanolis. During the meeting, they discussed the issues of deepening trade-economic cooperation between Georgia and Cyprus.

The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on Monday, November 24, 2025. The Georgian Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting, along with its glimpses.

The parties discussed deepening cooperation between the two countries in different sectors of the economy, including maritime security, digitization, port modernization, and environmental standards.

During the meeting, the high level of Georgian officers and sailors, including technical competence, reliability, and full compliance with STCW, was emphasized. It was noted that on ships floating under the Cypriot flag, highly qualified sailors from Georgia are already serving.

The development of personnel in the maritime field is another issue that the ministers of the two countries talked about. As noted by the Georgian side during the meeting, Georgia sees a great potential for further expansion of cooperation with Cyprus in the field of seafarers’ education, certification, and employment of cadets, as well as in the deepening of ties between Cypriot educational institutions and the Batumi State Maritime Academy.

Mariam Kvrivishvili and Marina Hajimanolis also discussed issues of deepening cooperation with IMO, including strengthening coordination among committees and working groups, securing navigation, digitization, and effective implementation of IMO tools. It was noted that the importance of sharing experience in maritime digitization is in the process of implementation of the Maritime Single Window and Port Community System.

The Ministers also focused on port modernization and environmental standards, which include the implementation of modern operational models, strengthening security, and environmental responsibility.

It should be noted that from 2026, Cyprus will be the chair country of the European Council.
