A senior Buddhist monk was found dead inside a monastery in Margherita Co-District on Saturday, prompting police to launch a murder investigation.
The body of Indrabonsho Bhikkhu, the chief monk of Inthem Mungong Buddha Vihar, was discovered inside his room on November 23. A blood-stained axe was recovered from the spot, leading police to suspect that he was attacked.
The monastery is located around 20 km from Margherita town in Tinsukia district. Officers are yet to confirm the motive behind the killing, and no arrests have been made so far.
Local residents and members of the Buddhist community have expressed shock over the incident and called for swift action. They have urged authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and identify those responsible.
Police said the case is under active inquiry as they work to establish the sequence of events leading to the monk’s death.
