How much has a basket of food in Portugal risen this year?

“The food basket became slightly cheaper last week. Between November 12th and 19th, its price fell by €1.44 (0.59%), now costing €243.52. Despite the decrease last week, the price of the food basket is still €7.35 (3.11%) more expensive compared to the first week of this year,” reads the analysis released by the association.

Since DECO PROteste began monitoring food prices in January 2022, this basket has increased by €55.82 (29.74%).

Highest price rises

According to the most recent data, tomato pulp and curly lettuce were the products whose price increased the most in percentage terms last week.

“For tomato pulp, the increase reached 23 cents (up 18%), with a 500-gram package of this product now costing €1.48. Curly lettuce, in turn, saw its price rise by 37 cents per kilo (up 17%), and now costs €2.51,” reads the organization’s website.

If we compare this week’s prices with those of the first week of the year, January 1st, 2025, the largest percentage price increase was seen in products such as eggs (up 32%), spaghetti (up 22%), and broccoli (up 18%).
