Telavi meeting reviews sites for waste-disposal facilities

Another working meeting on the issue of selecting territories for the construction of new, regional non-negative waste dispoal facilities was held in Telavi.

At the meeting held in the State Trustee’s Administration, participants discussed the current state of old landfills in the region and the issue of replacing them with new regional non-hazardous waste disposal facilities.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Regional Development Levan Zavutashvili, State Trustee in Kakheti Giorgi Aladashvili, Director ofGeorgian Solid Waste Management CompanyMikheil Gogolidze, and other representatives of municipalities.

As Solomon Pavliashvili noted, the implementation of new projects will contribute to improving both the ecological and infrastructural conditions in the region.

Solomon Pavliashvili noted,Creating an ecologically clean environment is our priority. Therefore, we are actively working on relevant directions, including the implementation of modern approaches to waste management.” “We continue our active cooperation with municipalities and other stakeholders,he added.

According to him, by working together, they will be able to replace old landfills with new, modern waste disposal facilities. The implementation of new projects will contribute to improving both the ecological and infrastructural conditions.

“At the working meeting held in the municipality, the existing challenges were discussed, which will be dealt with through active involvement and coordinated work of stakeholders, – said Solomon Pavliashvili.

Together with the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, the Ministry of Regional Development is actively involved in the ongoing working meetings to select areas for the construction of waste disposal facilities.

According to the Deputy Minister of Regional Development, Levan Zautashvili, the operation of modern waste disposal facilities will play an important role in the development of the infrastructure of the regions.

Mikheil Gogolidze, the director ofGeorgian Solid Waste Management Company”, stressed that the purpose of the company is to manage the waste produced in accordance with international standards, which will have an impact on the welfare of the population.

“We continue to work actively in selecting suitable locations for the construction of a new regional non-waste disposal facility.Our goal is to manage manufactured waste in accordance with European standards. That is why, by working together, we will take all the necessary steps to be able to implement projects in the shortest possible time, which will, first of all, concern the welfare of the population, said Mikheil Gogolidze.
