Part of Metro Line C Will Be Closed from Saturday Until Holiday Monday

Prague commuters will face a metro shutdown on Line C over the extended weekend due to necessary track repairs. From early Saturday morning until late Monday night, metro service will be suspended in both directions between the stations Hlavní nádraží (Main Railway Station) and Pražského povstání. To accommodate passengers, the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) is operating a replacement bus service, line XC, running along the same route.

This maintenance work is part of an ongoing refurbishment of the oldest section of the Prague metro, which originally opened in the late 1960s and early 1970s. During this period, 178 original wooden sleepers—railroad ties that have supported the tracks since the metro’s construction—will be replaced with modern concrete sleepers. The work focuses on the segment between Hlavní nádraží and the transfer station Muzeum, including the station itself.

According to DPP spokesperson Aneta Řehková, once this phase is complete, over three-quarters of the original wooden sleepers on the oldest metro section, spanning from Kačerov to Florenc, will have been replaced.

While the metro shutdown disrupts the usual flow for many, services will continue running on other parts of line C. Metro trains will operate between Háje and Pražského povstání as well as from Letňany to Hlavní nádraží. Between Florenc and Hlavní nádraží stations, trains will share a single track in each direction to maintain some level of service during the works.

The replacement bus line XC will serve stops at key stations including Hlavní nádraží, Muzeum, I. P. Pavlova, Vyšehrad, and Pražského povstání, ensuring connectivity despite the closure. Full metro service on Line C between Hlavní nádraží and Pražského povstání is scheduled to resume on Tuesday morning, November 18, 2025.
