A 25-year-old youth was brutally hacked to death after a gang chased him into the police housing quarters at Bheema Nagar in Tiruchi on Monday (November 10, 2025), triggering tension in the area.

The deceased, identified as Thamaraiselvan of Bheema Nagar, was employed with a private firm in the Cantonment area. According to police sources, the victim left home around 8.20 a.m. on his two-wheeler to go to work. While passing through Old Post Office Road, a five-member gang armed with sickles reportedly chased him.

In a bid to escape, Thamaraiselvan rode towards the Bheema Nagar police quarters, but the gang intercepted him and attacked him with sharp weapons. He abandoned his vehicle and ran inside the quarters seeking safety.

Police said the victim entered the house of Selvaraj, SSI of Thillai Nagar police station, located in Block A of the residential complex. The gang, however, barged into the house and repeatedly hacked him, killing him on the spot.

One suspect nabbed

Selvaraj’s family, who were inside the house having tea at the time, were left shell-shocked. The assailants fled the spot soon after.

Police personnel residing in the quarters chased the gang and managed to arrest one of the suspects, identified as Ilamaran. Preliminary inquiry suggests that the attackers were from the Thiruvanaikoil area. Detailed investigation is underway.
