Video: Little Rock Zoo releases footage of new penguin earlier this year

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Little Rock Zoo is set to host a celebration in honor of its100th anniversary that will focus on community, conversation and announcements related to its future operations.

The Zoo announced its Centennial Celebration will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 7,  at 1 Zoo Drive in Little Rock.

The event will feature family-friendly activities, including crafts for children, face painting, a parade, a costume contest and complimentary cupcakes.

A spokesperson for the zoo said a recycling event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in the east parking lot at the corner of Zoo Drive and Monroe Street.

A special announcement regarding the zoo’s future will take place from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the Elephant Stage or, in case of rain, under the Pavilion, zoo officials said. 

Scheduled speakers include Zoo Director Susan Altrui, Little Rock City Board Director Capi Peck, Arkansas State Representative Tippi McCullough, Sharmin Moody, Chair of the Zoo Board of Governors and Lisa Buehler, Chair of the Arkansas Zoological Foundation Board.

“As we celebrate 100 years of the Little Rock Zoo, we’re not just looking back—we’re looking forward to the next century of impact,” Altrui said. “Our future is rooted in sustainability, conservation, and deeper connections with the community we serve. This centennial is just the beginning of bold new plans for the Little Rock Zoo.”

To thank Little Rock residents for their tax support, the zoo will offer discounted admission of $2 with proof of residency (driver’s license, state-issued ID, or utility bill). Parking will be available for $1.
