HONOLULU (KHON2) – The Waikiki Aquarium partnered with community organizations this morning to lead a beach cleanup and restoration effort at Sand Island State Recreation Area.
The event ran this morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and brought out volunteers from across the island.
Working alongside the Global Preservation Initiative, Kōkua Hawai‘i Foundation, Hawai‘i State Parks and the Hawai‘i Softball Foundation, volunteers spent the morning removing trash and debris, clearing invasive plants, and planting native species.
The cleanup also served as an educational opportunity, with participants learning about coastal conservation and the impact of marine debris on local ecosystems.
