Record-breaking year for Wheels for Warmth

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – It was a record-breaking year for Wheels for Warmth, the nonprofit helping those in need access winter tires and heating fuel.

Wheels for Warmth was founded by Gov. Phil Scott 20 years ago. He saw the need Vermonters have for winter tires and heat.

The program collects used tires, sells them to Vermonters at a discount and donates the proceeds.

This year it raised $60,000 in tire sales and an additional $30,000 in cash donations.

Scott said donating and volunteering helps build community.

Scott also addressed his order requiring state employees to return to the office three days a week. He said the change will fulfill immediate needs as the state sorts out the requirement. He believes bringing employees back to the office will improve workflow and camaraderie.

But the Vermont State Employees Union has protested the governor’s order, saying it will disrupt lives and cost taxpayers more.
