November the 8th, 2025 – Croatia is set to introduce a so-called culture card which will permit some people to go to the cinema, the theatre, to concerts and more.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Minister of Culture and Media Nina Obuljen Koržinek recently announced the introduction of a culture card on Wednesday’s show “A sada Vlada”. The project will be on the agenda of the government session, and will be publicly presented at Interliber, which will be held at the Zagreb Fair (Velesajam) from November the 11th to the 16th, as has become traditional.
“This is a measure that initially targets eighteen-year-olds. They will receive information through an e-diary (e-dnevnik) that when they turn 18, Croatia will grand them a culture card, which represents a voucher of 100 euros with which they can finance a trip to the theatre, cinema, purchase a book or buy a concert ticket,” explained Obuljen Koržinek, as reported by 24sata.
This admittedly commendable project, she believes, will be a working incentive for young people to participate in culture, while also providing support for publishers, theatres and cultural institutions, all of which will gain a new audience with the move.
The minister also warned that Croatia is currently experiencing the same thing as many other European countries are, which she claimed to be the growth of populism and intolerance. She also emphasised the importance of media literacy, which she says is a key competence for young people to be resistant to manipulation, fake news and all kinds of misinformation we have now become flooded with in the deeply problematic AI age.
