A late-night crash near Kwik Mart at Topside on Nov. 4 left a woman injured after a silver Mazda slammed into a silver Honda and fled the scene. Witnesses described the frightening moment as the Mazda lost control and collided with the Honda before veering into a nearby wooded area.

At around 9 p.m. Nov. 4, a silver Mazda traveling down the left lane crashed into a silver Honda merging into the middle lane in front of the Kwik Mart at Topside.
An employee from Prime Grub who witnessed the crash said, “What we saw is that the silver Honda was in the right lane and the silver Mazda was speeding downward. Then he suddenly hit the brakes, and I think the car slid and hit the silver Honda. We hid because we could imagine the silver Honda hitting us.”
The crash was so loud that residents living in Semiich Topside could hear the noise.
The collision blocked the lane going down from Topside. People quickly surrounded the scene and watched as authorities moved the silver Honda off the main road.
Little parts of the Mazda were found scattered on the main road, along with a slipper believed to have been left behind by the driver who fled the scene.
The ambulance responded promptly and was able to tend to the female passenger, who was injured in the leg.
Witnesses said the Mazda struck the Honda and then rolled into a forested area beside the left lane of the road. The Mazda driver escaped before authorities arrived. Several attempts to get an official police report from the bureau of public safety were unsuccessful due to the lack of response. Those at the scene expressed hope that the injured passenger recovers swiftly from her injuries
