BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Another nod from the Recording Academy for a Vermont-born pianist who used music to try to patch his distant relationship with his dad after he died.
Adam Tendler was nominated for a Grammy for his album, “Inheritances.”
The musical project came about after his late father left him a wad of cash in an envelope. Tendler used the money to commission other A-list composers to create works for the piano.
He said the music is helping him heal.
“The truth is I’m actually feeling closer to him and have made more peace with that relationship and with myself and all of these sort of elements of the complexities of this relationship, more now than ever. It’s a shame that he passed away and that this had to happen for that to occur.”
Tendler is winning all kinds of accolades.
The Grammy nominee returns to Vermont this month for a concert in Barre. He talked about that and overcoming bullying and homophobia as a kid in Vermont with our Darren Perron for “You Can Quote Me” this Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
