Steve Bannon advised President Donald Trump to take extreme action after victories for New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and a redistricting measure in California this week.
“Two things I would do,” Bannon told Politico in a story published Wednesday. “Number one, get [assistant Attorney General] Harmeet Dhillon and the Justice Department to go out and file suit against this scam of [California Gov. Gavin] Newsom on this redistricting plan that went against the constitution of California. I would get the Justice Department to file suit, go get a [temporary restraining order] immediately, and then hit this thing and drag it out for a year.”
“Number two, I would get DHS, the State Department and the Justice Department looking immediately at Mamdani, who I am convinced did not get citizenship in a fair and honest way, and get those two things rolling,” Bannon added.

The ex-Trump White House strategist’s call for legal wrangling and fostering of a nationality conspiracy theory might come as no surprise. The ex-con claimed last November he was persecuted by lawfare and warned Democrats that the hunted (presumably Republicans) were about to become the hunters because of Trump’s victory.
He’s also an inveterate election denier who “was crowned the top peddler of false, misleading and unsubstantiated statements among political podcasts,” The New York Times wrote.
Bannon told Politico the progressive populism of democratic socialist Mamdani was formidable and should set off alarms for Republicans.
“You’re going to see a whole new group of Mamdanis in these major urban cities because they’re just flooded with immigrants, right?” Bannon said.
The passage of the Newsom-backed Prop 50 will reshape Congressional districts in California to favor more Democrats in the House as a counterpunch to GOP gerrymandering in Texas. A law firm that Dhillon founded and the California Republican party are heading up a lawsuit against Prop 50, claiming it is unconstitutional.
“Good luck, losers,” Newsom’s office wrote on X.

Mamdani was born in Uganda to a family of Muslim immigrants from India but spent most of his childhood in Manhattan. He became a U.S. citizen in 2018.
Some lawmakers are looking to have his citizenship revoked, claiming he should never have been accepted because of his membership in the Democratic Socialists of America.
