CASPER, Wyo. — Lights! Cameras! Action! Game! Set! Match! All eyes are on the KW Volleyball team this weekend as they take the main stage during the State Volleyball Tournament, happening Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoon.
The KW girls are coming off a big win against Star Valley as they enter the tournament, and they’re looking to make even more of a name for themselves over the weekend.
“Every team starts out the year with a goal,” said Kelly Walsh’s head volleyball coach, Jeff Barkell. “You wanna get to the state tournament and have a chance to do your best in the division you’re in, in order to win the big championship in the end.”
That’s exactly what Kelly Walsh is doing as they come face to face with some of the best teams across Wyoming. MaxPreps reports that KW is currently 30-3 and that’s the record they’ll bring with them as they take on East during the first playoff game on Thursday.
“I’ve been really impressed this year with our girls, as far as their resilience and their ability to overcome the little obstacles that pop up,” Barkell said. “I’ve also been impressed with what they’re willing to give to each other, of themselves, for their teammates. That’s been a pretty impressive thing.”
The KW girls leave it all on the court when they play, and it will be no different on Thursday. If they win their first game, they’ll play again on Friday night, and if they win that game, they’ll play again on Saturday afternoon. It’s a big tournament with a lot of pressure, but if the KW Volleyball team has proven anything, it’s that they thrive when they’re under pressure.
“This is just a really exciting, fun time for the kids and for everybody who knows anybody that’s playing in the tournament,” Barkell said. “To have all four classes come together in one arena and play next to each other is just super exciting. It’s great for the players. It’s great for recruiters. It’s great for fans. It’s just really one of the more exciting tournaments out there, because everyone is one place, playing their hearts out.”
Tickets for 2025 State Volleyball are available now via All Session Passes and individual tickets. They are available at the door of The Ford Wyoming Center. The first matches begin on Thursday at 1 p.m.
