Mukilteo-Clinton ferry will close midday for nine days next year

EVERETT — Repair work will force the midday closure of the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry route on nine select days in January and February, the Washington State Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.

Service will be suspended for about four hours during the middle of the day on Jan. 6, 8, 9, 13 and 16, as well as Feb. 3, 4, 6 and 9. On those dates, the last morning sailing from Clinton will be at 8:30 a.m., and the last morning sailing from Mukilteo will be at 9 a.m. Service will resume with the 1 p.m. sailing from Clinton and the 1:30 p.m. sailing from Mukilteo.

The department of transporation will also need to undertake overnight work from Jan. 19-23, 26-30 and from Feb. 16-20. On those dates, the last sailing of the day from Clinton will be at 11:30 p.m., and the last sailing from Mukilteo will be at 12:15 a.m.

The repairs are necessary to make repairs to the terminal’s west wingwall, the structure used to stop and hold ferries in place while they unload passengers and vehicles. In 2022, a hard landing at the terminal moved the wing wall out of position the department of transportation wrote.

The department made some initial repairs after the hard landing, but needs to perform more work to provide a more solid structure for ferry captains using the Mukilteo terminal.

The schedule of the closures could be affected by weather or fog, the department wrote.
