New BiH-Croatia Border Crossing to Open Soon

November the 6th, 2025 – A brand new BiH-Croatia border crossing will open in eastern Croatia soon, and it’s been deemed to be of crucial importance.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, a brand new BiH-Croatia border crossing near Stara Gradiška in eastern Croatia could soon be open, after the last administrative obstacle related to its categorisation has now finally been removed.

The Ministry of Security of neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed to Nezavisne novine that the missing members of the interstate border commission have now been elected, which has delayed the completion of the procedure for several months. Documentation on the election of those new members has been sent from the Presidency of BiH to the Ministry of Security.

The Bosnian and Herzegovinian members of the commission will meet on November the 10th to agree on negotiating positions before talks with the Croatian side. The commission decides on the categorisation of the crossing, and it is expected that, in addition to the new BiH-Croatia border crossing at Stara Gradiška, several other crossings will also receive a new status, which would render them open to goods transport as well as to normal passenger traffic.

Here on the Croatian side, the construction and equipping of the future border crossing have now been completed, and only the technical inspection remains. The first phase of the expressway leading to Okučani has also been completed.

On the other side of the Sava River, the powers that be in Bosnia and Herzegovina have already completed all the necessary infrastructure in relation to the future border crossing. That includes a bridge over the Sava River, which was completed in 2022 and connected to the motorway leading to Banja Luka and Doboj.

The opening of the new BiH-Croatia border crossing will significantly relieve the existing border crossing at Gradiška, which has been among the busiest in the region for years and become synonymous (and infamous) with long queues and hours of waiting.
