Claremont voters re-elect Dale Girard for mayor

CLAREMONT, N.H. (WCAX) – Voters in Claremont, New Hampshire, chose their new mayor on Tuesday.

Incumbent Dale Girard will serve another term.

Girard took the race in a landslide, snagging over 1,400 votes.

His challenger, James Campos, is relatively new to the area, having moved to Claremont a little under four years ago. He brought in just over 500 votes.

Ahead of polls closing, both candidates told WCAX the city is not without problems.

“Like any community, housing. The shortage of housing is a huge problem. Getting worked on, but never getting enough here as quickly as we can. Taxes are probably the biggest thing that everybody is talking about,” said Girard.

“Ever since I have been here, our taxes have done nothing but go up. I’ve seen people online worrying about how they are going to put food on the table, and or paying their taxes,” said Campos.

The position of mayor in Claremont is non-partisan, so voters did not see party affiliation on the ballot.

The mayor’s main task is to lead city council meetings, while the city manager runs the day-to-day operations.
