A Special Sub-Inspector of Police and a constable were suspended from service for allegedly fatally hitting two persons, who were waiting at a bus stop at Kannarapettai, with their vehicle on Tuesday (November 4, 2025) evening.

The police said SSI Rajendran, attached to the Avinangudi police station, allegedly drove their car in an inebriated condition. Constable Hussain, who was in the vehicle, was also drunk. The duo allegedly mowed down labourers Vadivel, 45, Baskar, 47 and Jayaraj, 45, who were waiting at the Annavalli bus stop at Kannarapettai.

While Vadivel and Jayaraj died on the spot, Baskar sustained injuries and was admitted to the Cuddalore Government General Hospital.

The Cuddalore New Town police registered a case against the duo after taking them into custody.

Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar ordered their suspension with immediate effect.
